Light Work Seeks Applicants for Assistant Director Position

Light Work seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director.

The Assistant Director will work in all areas of Light Work's operation, and the successful candidate will be an individual who understands and champions the organization's commitment to supporting emerging and under recognized mature artists. He/she will possess demonstrated skills and experience in this key area. The position requires the ability to work as part of a team of seven professional staff members, and the proven ability to take initiative, be a creative problem solver, as well as a skilled administrator.

A working knowledge of photographic practices and techniques, including black-and-white, color, and digital imaging is a must. The successful candidate must possess this knowledge in order to effectively advise visiting Artists-in-Residence, as well as support the staff in Light Work's public-access photography and computer lab facility.

As an artist-run organization, priority consideration will be given to a working artist with proven experience in curating exhibitions featuring contemporary photographers and digital artists. The Assistant Director will be responsible for curating one or two exhibitions in Light Work's main gallery per year and assisting in the planning and production of two to three additional exhibitions in Light Work's auxiliary galleries. The Assistant Director will work with the artistic staff at Light Work to select artists to participate in Light Work's Artist-in-Residence program, and manage the scheduling and accommodation of twelve Artists-in-Residence per year.

The successful candidate will have strong marketing and grant writing skills, and must be able to work independently on fundraising projects.

The Assistant Director must also have the ability to design and produce high quality publications, and will be responsible for producing two regular issues of Light Work's award-winning publication, Contact Sheet, per year.

The successful candidate will have experience in the practices and procedures for the care and maintenance of photographic collections, and the ability to manage and market Light Work's website and online collection.

Salary will be commensurate with candidate's experience, and includes full health and university pension benefits.
